Katey Sagal
A versatile, gifted performer, Katey
Sagal is a skilled singer and actress who excelled at comedy and drama. She was
most well-known for her role as Peg Bundy, a brilliantly bold, unmistakable
character from the Fox show Married... with Children (1987). She was awarded
two American Comedy Award nominations and three Golden Globes during its
lengthy run. Peg Bundy was equally well-known and popular as Katey as she
continued to star in sitcoms on television. Katey also played roles which were
totally different from the role that first attracted national attention. In
2008 she played the character of Gemma Teller Morrow (the matriarch of a Hell's
Angels-like California biker group) on Sons of Anarchy (2008). The character
she played earned her a Golden Globe Award in 2011 for Best performance by an
actress on a Television Series--Drama. Catherine Louise Sagal was born on
January 19 1954, the daughter of singer and director Sara Zwilling and noted
television and film director Boris Sagal. Los Angeles native, Catherine Louise
Sagal began singing when she was just five years old. She later studied acting
and voice at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia. She worked as a
waitress who sang in her "salad" times. After performing with
"The Group With No Name," she got a break when she teamed up with
Gene Simmons and KISS, a 1970s rock band. She also worked as a backing singer
on recordings for Simmons and other famous celebrities, including Bob Dylan
(Olivia Newton-John), Etta James, and Tanya Tucker. She was also dynamic
performing live alongside the diva Bette Midler as one of her
"Harlettes" in her wildly avant-garde stage shows during the late
1970s and in the early 1980s.
